Exchanging ideas is invigorating and fun.

I had a client reach out to me last Friday about a strategic planning project – it was so much fun to strategize together about the work that needed to be done. For both of us, it was the last meeting on a Friday afternoon. It was the end of a long week and I think we both left feeling surprised, refreshed, invigorated and hopeful.

That’s what conversations of possibility do.

So many strategic conversations have been delayed due to world events – COVID-19 and the racial revolution have reorganized our thinking and our actions in important ways.

Organizations have delayed strategic p...

This is one of my favorite songs - when I first had dreams of creating productions like this, Morten Lauridsen's Dirait-On was always on my mind and in my heart. The work is based upon a text translation of a poem by Rilke; the section that inspires reads - "Who you are sustains you eternally, so they say; your very being is nourished by its own enlightened reflection.” For me this text encourages us to recognize and share the best of ourselves with others. I hope it restores your energies. The music is performed by the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Paul Salamunovich conducting. Let it heal your soul and celebrate the best...

Nothing comes from nothing

Nothing ever could

So somewhere in my youth or childhood

I must’ve done something good.

~Oscar Hammerstein II~

You’ve done something good.

If you tracked all the contributions and all the ways that you’ve made a difference, you would be overwhelmed.

If all the people you have helped in some way could come forward and tell you today what a difference you made, you would be stunned.

We go about our lives making people smile, shaping people’s lives, doing what we do and we rarely take inventory of the goodness we bring.

The other night the song "Something Good" from The Sound of Music popped into my mind....

I'm in a summer state of mind at the beach - I hope the summer promises some rest time for you too. (Create a vacation in your mind as often as you can.)

As I sit here on the beach, it's a good time to think about the past, present and future - and today I am thinking about miracles.

Recently I heard myself say, "It will be a miracle when [fill in the blank] happens."

A light bulb went off right away and my inner wisdom gave me a talking to as she shouted:

Miracles do happen.
You are thinking about it all wrong.
We may think of them as unexpected, unbelievable, seemingly impossible things that happen in our l...

In challenging times or times of strength, it is helpful to remember the Core Truths™. There are 12 basic truths that we need to say to ourselves every day. Everything we need to know is in here somewhere.  Let it strengthen you to know....

Last year was a huge year of growth for all of us - local, national and world events have made us feel a little off balance - the 2017 Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index confirms that this is true for all demographics - gender, age, race, religion, political party, etc. - we are one in our feelings of uncertainty and in our desire to feel better.

This "state of the union" has caused me to want to "come out" about why and how Refreshment Zone was conceived - I'll be revealing more about that in 2018.

What is Refreshment Zone and How Can It Help Us Now?

Refreshment Zone is inspired by you. In my work as a social scientist and...

We carry a lot of extra weight on our shoulders and in our brains around the holidays. There's the weight of things we want to do, things we ought to do and things we think will be fun but can't seem to find time for. What's on your list that is weighing you down? Get a cup of coffee, sit by the fire, breathe and make a list. Reassess - to do'sought's, should's and want to's. What rises to the top? Do that one first. If there are things you are putting off but feel like the doing of them will be quick and easy - do that first. I tested my own advice this morning and did 2 things - spent five minutes - and lifted 10 ton...
