See, Hear, Speak - Change the World

One of the organizations that I am honored to work with is the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities (TLC). TLC offers hope, dignity and opportunity to people with developmental disabilities; my work with the leaders, staff, families and community members who care about TLC is a gift that brings new awareness to me each day about life and about leadership.

As I have learned more about the heart and soul of this organization, the words of one of the founding members of TLC, Betty Moore, have been brought to my attention. For those of us involved in nonprofits, we often reflect upon why we do the work that we do. The words of Betty Moore, extracted from a speech that she made many years ago, inspire me and I hope they will inspire you as well.

“There are many reasons why one becomes involved in certain ‘action groups.’

Three good reasons resemble the little monkeys you see all huddled together which read:

See no evil,

Hear no evil,

Speak no evil.

If you apply these little sayings and insert the words,

See what needs to be done.

Hear what and how to do it.

Speak up for others who cannot speak for themselves.

Then you know why I am here.”

~Betty Moore, Founding Member of Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities~

Powerful people are making a powerful difference in the world – thanks to Tammy Lynn Center, to Betty Moore and to each of you for your work to support the higher good - you are changing the world one action at a time.
